Our latest newsletter

The first half of 2013 has been hectic, exciting and inspiring for all of us at Improguise. We mounted SA’s first ever Improv Festival, launched our once a month experimental improv evening at Alexander Bar, continued with our regular Monday and Tuesday performances, and raised R2200 for the Theatre Benevolent Fund in honour of Madiba’s birthday.

Now we are barrelling down towards our Improguise Soap-a-thon!  This is our first official announcement of the date of South Africa’s second ever improv marathon and first ever 15 hour non-stop improvised medieval fantasy soap opera! So save the date. Saturday 26 October 2013.

After our first ever 12 hour soap-a-thon last year, we have decided to go bigger, longer and just generally MORE, with 10 episodes of made up madness, murder, motherhood, magic and maidenheads. Once again, all proceeds will be going to Rape Crisis and this year we would like to quadruple our takings from R12000 to R48000.

We are not asking you to be kind and generous. We know that if you come to one or more (or even ALL) episode you will be hooked, impressed, blown away and amazed. So clear your schedule on 26 October and come on down to The Little Theatre (which will be newly refurbished) next to The Intimate, to be part of our record breaking, hair raising, improvised marathon.

If that seems like a long wait (and let’s face it, it is!) remember that you can get your fix of Cape Town’s longest running (OMG we’ve been going for almost 21 years now!) and most loved (that’s what you all tell us) improvisation show at The Intimate at 20.30 on every Monday night ever, and on Tuesdays at 20.00 at The Kalk Bay Theatre. We’ll be starting monthly themes at Kalk Bay Theatre, kicking off this August, which will be Month of The Magnificent Woman. All our Tuesday shows will include strong women as a theme and the last Tuesday of the month will be a long form show with women as the stars.

For those of you wanting to be a bit more adventurous with your improv, Jam Sandwich on the last Thursday of the month at Alexander Bar is experimental, adult and out there. Next Thursday is our second Little Space Between, intimate, sexy improv about relationships, love and sex. Book here.

So there’s a lot going on with Improguise. We are also in the process of looking at dates for our next improv training course. Are you an actor wanting to broaden your performance, audition and creativity skills? Do you want to join our company of improvisers?
